Kaposi sarcoma is an angioproliferative neoplasm associated with infection by Human Herpesvirus 8.
In people living with HIV, the disease typically occurs in the epidemic variant, which is an AIDS-defining condition. However, in individuals from sub-Saharan Africa, Kaposi sarcoma may also present in its endemic form, highlighting the importance of accurate diagnosis for appropriate treatment.
The authors report a case of endemic Kaposi sarcoma in a male living with HIV from Angola, with virological suppression and good immunological status under antiretroviral therapy for more than a decade, diagnosed with endemic Kaposi sarcoma, confirmed by biopsy of a large inguinal lesion.
